The prevailing idea is that their are many companies to choose snow machines from and these machines work differently depending on the company selected. Fact You have Snowmasters, Snowboy, Universal Effects for the 3 different snow deleivery system. In the United Sates the standards for indoor snow is the refined evporative snow that uses around a gal an hour othe brands use a gal very 20 minutes.
Fact - Snowmasters owns the technology and licenses all model (Antari Lemaitre, Chauvet, CITC) so if it's not Snowmasters brand its a lower performance model. So if the company is not offering Snowmasters Brand they have 1990 consumer model, only Snowmasters are the most technically advanced special effect method available, high performance Evaporative Snow ® Patented Technology fluid (FAQ) which evaporates in 30 to 90 second or moments after it hits a surface. Snowmasters brand are modernized design in a family of special effects Snow Machines used for years in Theme Parks, Movie Productions, Theatres, Malls, and Presentations. These futuristic modeled “work-horse” sprays evaporative snow are out from its nozzle section and creates a realistic snowfall effect without residue or cold air. The following is the real facts on fake snow machine industry. We have 8 Different Snow Machines Options to Choose from. We have over a dozen machine options.
The first Snowmasters designed units were available on the market to the entertainment industry in 1991 when Antari made the first units for Snowmasters under the Antari name. Just a few short years later in 1994 Snowmasters had advanced the machines to High Volume/High Range and called the machines the T-1000 and the T-5000 labeled "The Magic of Francisco Guerra". In 1994-95 these original Antari models once used by professionals in early 90's were outdated compared to today's versions of Snowmasters machines, the 1999 machines or even the 1995 snowmasters models and were considered Consumer BrandsA low performance consumer machine is louder, makes wetter (difficulty in dissipation) snow with inconsistently in flake size which clump together with low volume of snow while spraying short distances.
It is very difficult to compare identically priced snow events from different sources as snow machines all do the same basic function, make millions of cluster of bubbles at an event, with snowmasters machines that's 10's of thousands of bubbles (per machine) per minute other consumer brands have much less output per minute. While some snow machines look alike and they all have a basic design of operation which is pumping fluid and blowing fake snow flakes. But snow machine are not made equal in performance and features, they don't all have the same standards of excellence from one machine to the another. Only Snowmasters has advance proprietary features and 99 steps of evaporative flake control.
You Can Do It Yourself
We help many malls save money and do the set up process themselves with help from our team. Perhaps in the past other company's offered services that included a snow attendant and an install team. The snow staff was on property to run the event and to take care of the machines which were never designed to be outdoors due to the machines and company limitations. We have the option of automated show snows events. We are leading the industry in self installing and make it very easy with our consultation. We can travel and do the setup if you have limited staff or just prefer to go that route. We are leading the industry in self installing and will make it very easy process.

7- Snow Machines logistics for Snow Blowing in the Air
A- Shipping Machines
Snow machines shipping has increased in the past 3 year 6% in 2009 and another 8% in 2010 and another 5 % 2011, and in 2013 - 2014 15-20% UPS Supply Chain and FedEx - FedEx Ground has increased prices and have pick up fees for residential pick ups. The shipping companies have fuel surcharge fees. We charge the quoted fees given by these companies and we have not increased our prices. Shipping costs are beyond our control and costs depends on you location. We need you shipping address to get a quote. Quotes are based on our volume of shipping and your location and if its residential or commercial drop off. We use a 3-4 day ground shipping rate. We use FedEx Ground and Freight along with and FedEx Express and UPS Supply Chain. The larger machines could ship on a pallet.
You must send the machine back in the designed box and foam or card board inserts. Also if it comes on a pallet you ship it back on a pallet.
The charge for the box is 35.00. The charge for the foam or charge board insert is 50.00.
B - Power and Electric Voltage
The key to power is to use the size AC cord that the machine has which is a 14/3 - 12/3 - 10/3 and less than 50 feet with just one long extension cord. Also you can't share power with the snow machines. You will need a dedicated 20 amp circuit for each machine and you need you know how and understand much amperage and voltage is available and what else within these circuits are being used or sharing power.
Lets talk about getting a 20 amp circuit, you can have temporary 400 amp distro coming from a 25K generator, but someone needs to do the math on the requirements on the entire job to ensure that there enough power for the size job to run all other devices (lighting, sound, etc). While a electric circuit drop to the machine location which is a dedicated circuit, it can still be sharing the Amperage or the Voltage which can be lower and can cause under powering of the machines. Amperage or electric current, is a measure of the amount of electrons moving in a circuit, Voltage is a measure of how much force those electrons are under. Both of these can drop down and be below required amount. We can meter to the amps and voltage from the source and at the machine placement. So many times the electrician claims machines are to blame, as its the easy way out for him, but its always the lack of planning of the electric requirements and the metering always proves the real facts.
Fact- Amperage, also called current, is the amount of electrical energy flowing through an appliance at any given time. This measurement is expressed in units called amperes, often shortened to amps.
The 120 volt 20 amp electric circuit given for the machine can have less than 120 volts. It can be 118 volts from the electric distro but at the end of the electric extension cord can have a voltage drop to 110 volts and may not be enough to run the machine of under powering the unit where a thermal shut protection off can come on. Also if a group of circuits each a 20 amps are shared and you must know how much amperage all devices are using to make sure the total amps needed is not exceeded.
So if the electrician says he give a 20 amp circuit its not that simple.
A neat analogy to help understand these terms is a system of plumbing pipes. The voltage is equivalent to the water pressure, the current or amps is equivalent to the flow rate, and the resistance is like the pipe size or size of the wire.
Power is the top issues when dealing with snow machines. If your using 2- 4 machines or more you will need to make sure your powering the machines so that they are working 100% and not losing voltage to the machines. The machines T-1000, T-1100- T-1600 use a 10 amp draw, or a T-1500 uses a 15 amp draw. The T 5000 uses two 20 amp Circuits. The machines work best with a dedicated 20 amp circuit for each machine. The T- 5000 uses two dedicated 20 amp circuit each. To gain best results us 10/3 - 12/3 - 14/3 power extension cords.
The math on the amp draw required to run 10 T - 1000's a 10 amp machine, the total amps required are 100 amps. If you running 6 T 1500's that 90 amps. This calculation is with out extension cords resistance deduction. This would add 1 amp for every 100 foot of 12/3, 14/3 extension cord, but if your using the normal household 18-3 extension cords you could be losing a amp every 25 ft. and every time you plug extension cord together.
That being said the first thing we need to do is meter the voltage & amps (at the power source location) which is the electric where the machine power will come from. Get a reading from the Clamp-on-meter with the machine running. Now run the power to the the snow machine via a AC extension cord to the machine and meter the voltage again in the same fashion. You should not have more than a 3- 5 % loss on voltage and not much more than an amp or two loss, so if you metered 122V with the machine off and then power up the snow machines and Metered 117V (from thee Wall Plug to the machine placement) the extension cord where the machine will be used must meter higher than 110 Volts. If you have a 3- 5% drop in voltage the machine will be working with less powers and will not blow as far for pump as much snow or thermal shut off can happen. If you have the correct gauge extension cords should meter should be the same in both locations.
A good Example of Clean Power and our event timers in action.
snow machine event timers
A clean 220 Volts to 110 volts breakout box that connected to our timers boxes then the edison to sockplex cable that travels to the breakout box to edison plugs again. We have a dedicated circuit to each machine.
snow machine electrical power
Sockplex to Stage pin - Edison to Stage Pin - 220V to 120V breakout Box - 220 V power supply
From the power box to breakout box is 100 foot, from the breakout box with timers to truss breakout box is 75 ft and from the truss breakout boxto furtherest machine 12/3 edison cord that 100 ft long and we metered 120.5 volts and the correct amps on the machines.
Some of our commercial machine requires 30 amps and 115 Volts min power required. This may need a 220 volt distro box to 120 volts dropped to the machine.
snow machine elecric check
You must use one long extension cord not a few short ones. Each time you use a extension cord and plug into another extension cord you can drop the voltage and then the amps. So if you need to use a 75 foot extension cord use a single length and use dedicated circuit for each machine. Do Not shared with other lighting etc My experience proves that power is the number one problem when using snow machines. The first sign is usually when the throw of a machine is less than 10 feet with the wind to your back.

The La Encantada Mall, AZ 2007 Tucson rented 10 machines when any one machine was running it was at 100 %, when multiple machines ran the machines had electric operational issues, meaning it operated at a reduced pumping and blowing rate. The snow machines ran at a reduced rate due to the shared electric from the outlets on rooftop. This property had a electric problems due to years of rearranging and sharing power for christmas lighting and events. With all 10 machines at once the machines were blowing less and the the snow at a reduced rate. Plus we had effect fans. It can always appear as the machines is at fault at first, but most times its the electric power supply issue. If the machine is not drawing the amps or correct voltage, the blower will blow less and pump will pump less. Always check the Voltage with a clamp on meter. In this Mall the front office never understood what was happening and it wasn't the machines, but the service staff did understand as they were the ones who rearranged the electric over the years for the christmas deco.

C- Machine Placement and Performance
THINKING ABOUT HEIGHT AND COVERAGE
To rent a machine you need to think about the snow machine placement and were you can mount the machine above the area where you want the snow either on truss a tripod or our floor mounted snow machine. You can always point the machine the up into the air at a 45% angle. The reason for this is very simple, natural snow falls straight from the sky to the ground. With the exception of blizzard conditions, snow doesn't usually swirl up from the ground and then fall back down.
Snow machines need to be above the heads of the audience, that's 12 ft - 15 ft - 18 ft to 30 feet height off the ground level. In general, a t a Starting height of 12' ft snow shoots: 15 FT unless it a T 1500 which shoots 50 ft.
Machines can be placed on tripods, roof tops, awnings, free standing truss, trees, lampposts and lifts. Indoors you will need to be near the ceiling on chain motor Truss, free standing truss tripods to get the machine as high as possible. Indoors you'll need an awareness of the floor type and the height of the machine, and adjust the flake size accordingly. Carpets, concrete and grass are no worry surfaces. On tile floors, marble floors and wood floors you need to have the machine high and use a small flake (Flurry) size. Using a DMX machine like a T -1100 - T - 1500 allows for total Flake control.
When on Roof Tops, you must be sure that the air flow is free and clear when placing on the roof tops, make sure it is not hitting the roof edge. If the machine is to close to any walls or roof top facade the snow will not below as far, this will be visible by snow sticking to the wall or facade ledge top. The wind flow will determine how far out into the street the snow reaches. You must get the snow spray flow and/or wind flow to be unobstructed.
One T-1000 will cover up to 300 square feet indoors and up to 1000 square feet outdoors. The T - 1000 is analog with a analog 1 - 10 control dial.
Totally evaporative snow is possible as long as the setting of flakes is evaporating within 30 seconds, smaller flakesWe have 99 steps of flake control. If a T 1100 machine is hanging on a 14 foot tripod and you want the snow to disappear or evaporate before it hits the ground or a few feet above the ground, the flake size adjustment 800 - 899 should be around 814 - 825. The show will travel around 15 feet out.
A T 1500 Mini at 10 foot off the ground angled upward and outward that is set on 835, with fan on full speed, will evaporate before it hits the ground. The T 1000 - T 1100 - T 1600 at 30 foot high the snow blows 30 - 35 out and 8 - 12 wide. The air currents or wind will take the snow further or in a direction the right direction or in some cases the wrong direction or up draft.
Charts shows the range of the different models
snow machine distance chart
If you want kids to really play in the falling snow the machines need to be 12- 15 feet off the ground or in a position that buildings would block the wind. Such as lamp posts, trees or free standing dressed truss, awnings etc...
Machines on the roof top is an atmosphere effect of falling snow, where you want the flurries over a large area. Like real snow the wind will push the move the snow. with the air currents over the building.
30 seconds evaporating is using smaller flakes on the DMX Dial
THINKING ABOUT HEIGHT AND COVERAGE
Height; Machines need to be place 12ft - 14ft - 18ft - 20ft - 30ft off the ground. A machine at 12 foot off the off the ground will shoot 14-16 ft and at 20 foot will shoot 20-25 ft and at 30 feet will spray 30-35 feet.
This distance chart represents an bird's eye view of our different machine options with the snow machines placed indoors at 30 feet from ground with unobstructed air flow. The chart to the right shows the higher the special effect snow machine is placed the further the distance and and wider coverage at 15'- 20'- 25' - 30 feet.
First, all snow machines produce a “cone” of snow which is smallest near the machine and disperses as you get farther away creating a “curtain effect”. The key to coverage in a larger venue (or when you want to make it snow on the audience at a theatre) is not determined as much by the number of machines as it is by the air handler’s circulation in the room itself. Air handlers in arenas and many modern ballroom facilities are designed to re-circulate thousands of cubic feet of air per minute. Experiment with air handler’s currents to circulate snow around the venue.
snow machine flow chartT 1500 snow flow chart
Coverage; You need to have machines every 15-20 foot apart for even coverage. A 60 x 30 area with machines at 30 foot would need 4 of these machines T 1000's or T 1100's or T 1600's
The T 1500's will shoot 50 foot out, the Mini will shoot 15-18 wide, the MAX with shoot 20 - 25 ft wide With a 60 x 40 area you would need 2 T 1500's machine for this space. The 1500 can shoot from the ground level at ground level.
The T 5000 will shoot 80 foot outward and 30ft wide

The T 5000 blows snow 45 (at 15 ft) - 100 ft and 80 foot out on average and 20 - 30 wide. One T-1000 will cover up to 300 square feet indoors and up to 1000 square feet outdoors. T -1100 25' to 35' Starting height of 15' and 8'- 12' wide. T - 1600 35" and 8' - 15' wide. The fans break up the snow making more volume and is drying it out as well.

You will with the rental receive a 8 oz bottle of concentrate snow fluid to mix with distilled water (you supply) in our bottle with the machine. A gallon of fluid with the machine on full throttle will last;
T - 1000 - T 5000 Over an hour+ fullout
T - 1100 - T 1600 - T 1500 1 - 1 1/2+ hours
(All other snow machines non snowmasters consumers machines use a Gal 40-45 minutes)
You can order Gallons premix fluid at an additions shipping rate.
Many Malls don't realized that they can use from a few thousand to 10,000.00 of fluid on a long run. The fluid is a major cost and we have options for you.
If you use a 5 gal pail it the snow machine must not be level or below the pail as a siphon action occurs and the sock will start to leak fluid. The 5 gal pail should always be next to or below the machine.
True Evporating snow fluid when it has to evporate before contact.
Eco Snow will be economical by of virtue (price) of being thicker, whiter and longer lasting. Makes a superior flake. Dry and fluffy! No-slip formula. Not harmful to plants, skin or eyes. Safe for kids. High Quality fluid. An extremely dry flake that floats over long distances. Water content evaporates leaving a beautiful falling flake that is dry when you touch it and disappears after contact. Perfect for use where dry snowflakes are necessary without residue or mess.
F - Wind and Weather
Only snowmasters machines can supported be rain covers and stay in the elements due there design.
If the wind is blowing in the direction that the machines are pointing then it will help the distance that the machines covers. If the wind is working against the machines then you might not get the expected coverage. Pointing the machines in the directions of the machines will allow the snow to travel far and give the best coverage. On a windy day you can't fight the wind nor do can Fans and blowers, You need to adjust placement and blow into the wind.
If you want kids to really play in the falling snow the machines need to be 12- 15 feet off the ground or in a position that buildings would block the wind. Such as lamp posts, trees or free standing dressed truss, awnings etc...
Snow can react to wind, temperature and humidity or lack of humidity. Wind can up draft snow and take a % of snow upward. This is what happens on a roof top. Wind can down draft and push it onto the ground as well.
Machines on the roof top is an atmosphere effect of falling snow, where you want the flurries over a large area. Like real snow the wind will push the move the snow. with the air currents over the building.
Temperatures and the humidity levels can make snow look different in some applications as well as. This is a foam base the snow shouldn't be run in the rain. High humidity will make snow last longer, lack of humidity snow can be smaller and not last as long.
We have had our machine in freezing conditions and they got frozen solid. Just let them defrost. The best thing to do is use the machines every 3-4 hours to keep the fluid moving thru the hoses in cold conditions . I wouldn't worry until it goes below 32%F In the 40's all is fine.
G - Effect Fans and Additional Snow Blowers
We can supply or you can use 3000 CFM to 4800 cfm blowers or Effect fans to help blow the snow further out, up and over a roof, or ground level up. Many times indoor or out this helps to get the blizzard look. Each fan can take a 10 amp power draw. Our T 1500 machines once again is a snow machine build into a powerful CFM fan. There are many tricks to get the snow where you want it as long as you can power the machines in each location where the machines need to be placed.
H - Lighting Snow
One of the biggest challenges, and most often overlooked factor when using snow, is proper lighting. Back lighting, and to some extent side lighting, are vital to the audience being able to see a snow effect well. If lit from the front only, the effect's visibility will be poor at best. Lighting can be especially challenging in a ballroom or other "total environment" setting or venue, when your audience will be viewing the snow from multiple angles and positions in the room. Ideally, you want your lighting to come from above, yet below the snow machines, like hiding the snow machines in the dark above the light sources. By hiding the source of the snow, you add to the sense of wonder this effect often has on an audience. A 1000 watt Scoop is a great way to light snow.
Snow with a white background its hard to see snow from a distance.
Snow indoors with roof glass windows is the same as a white background, hard to see from a distance.
8 - Problems or Snow Machine Issues
The Number One Failure
The Number One failure is a curled snow fluid line/tube/hose in the bottle. You think you have enough fluid in the bottle, but the weighted end that is supplied is taken off and the result is a burnout pump. The pump can run dry for a few minutes. But 10 - 12 machines of running dry will result in low performance or failure of the pump. See the curled hose taken from a Disney Machine and the weight hose that goes to the bottom.
Machine is not making snow - make sure the hose in the gal jug is all the way down to the bottom of the Jug. Push the hose through the handle.
Machine is not making much show and you see foam in the hose - Get a bottle of water and let it pump the water, you may need to blow through the hose while the machine is running. In this cause the foam has made the machine lose its prime.
If the machine is in wrong setting for your application you can experience problems.
1) The snow machine Rotary DMX setting Dial on the machine has many features but it can stop the machine if not on the correct setting
1-on the dial 0-512 DMX mode - need a lighting control board to run, machine will act dead on this setting with out the light board
2- on the dial 600 - 700 cycle timers machines will go on and off
3- on the dial 800 Flake control - set the size flake and just turn machine on -off
4- on the dial 900 - 30 foot wired rheostat control - the machine will act as dead on this setting without this controller
Flake too big not evaporating when they laid on the floor - The flake control 800 - 899 on the DMX rotary dial, just back down the setting.
If you ran out of fluid and the machine will not pump fluid - unplug the unit from the wall and wait ten minutes then plug in and the unit should work.
The Machine is not making the snow blow or go far or it is not pumping a lot of snow see electrical power supply problems in Power (above)

If the snow machine does not generate snow, review the following checklist.
a) When turned “ON”, is the Fan Operating? (Air is shooting out the nozzle ).
Yes: Move on to (b)
Check the electric plug at the outlet connection, and make sure the remote connector
is connected to the main unit. Check to see if the power switch is “ON” on the main unit. A red
LED light should be illuminated on the back of the snow machine when power is “ON”. Make sure that
the DMX settings meet your desired criteria (see the DMX section of this manual-the unit should
always be operating with settings between 880-899). Also, the LED light on the remote should be
illuminated (blinking) if the main power is “ON” and the DMX setting is in the 900s. A constant
light will illuminate on the remote if snow is being generated. If the lights are not illuminated, call
customer service at 813 689 6269 or the 24 hr tech line at 888-391-SNOW.
b) Is the Pump Operating?
Yes: If you feel the clear plastic tube vibrating, then the pump is operating.
Go to (c)
No: Recheck the DMX settings per the DMX settings in the manual. The unit should always
operate and blow snow with settings between 880 and 899.

c) Check to see if the tube is fully submerged in solution and is not pinched. A hole in the hose
would require replacement. It sometimes takes up to 2 minutes for the self-priming pump to
saturate the nozzle sock with liquid.

d) Set the Rotary Switch between 880 and 899 to prove that the unit operates.
e) Create a new “Solution Mixture”, per the instructions, if the nozzle sock is saturated with liquid
but no snow is being made.

11- DMX 512 FAQ
What is DMX-512
DMX-512 is a standard protocol which allows lighting, controllers, and control desks to communicate with other lighting equipment. It was designed to allow equipment from different companies to be used together easily.
Where Did DMX Come From?
The first dimmers/fixture functions were actually controlled by levers on the dimmers/fixtures themselves. During a show, it could take several people to move these levers and someone else to coordinate them. This kind of control was quite cumbersome. Later, control wires were run from each dimmer/fixture function to a control console. If you had 300 dimmers/fixtures, you had to have 300 control wires!! To improve this, manufacturers started using digital signals sent down one control cable. At first each manufacturer used their own protocols, meaning that different manufacturer's equipment could not be combined. Finally, DMX-512 was adopted as the standard lighting control protocol.
Standard DMX is based on 512 individual channels, which can be set to a level between 0 and 255. If a dimmer/function was addressed to be on channel 1, and the level of channel 1 was brought up to 255 (100%), the dimmer/function would be sending out at full power. Therefore, a color/gobo or other functions are assigned a number from 0 to 255.
Example:

 Channel 1 (GOBO)
       0 = Blackout
10-20 = GOBO 1
20-30 = GOBO 2
30-40 = GOBO 3
This means anywhere
Between level 10-20
GOBO 1 would be visible.
DMX-512 - 512 represents the number of channels one DMX cable can carry. It requires only 3 pins. Older systems, known as 5-core DMX, may be seen (two pins will not be used and are reserved for a 2nd data link). The data is sent serially to 2 pins (the third is the ground pin) known as positive phase or hot and negative phase or cold. Pins 4 & 5 are reserved for a 2nd data signal or talkback. At the console end, the channels are fed into a multiplexer (MUX) which takes the individual channels data and encodes it into a format suitable for sending down the DMX line with all the other channels' data. At the dimmer/fixture end, the data is fed into a demultiplexer (DEMUX) and split up again into the individual channels to be fed to their respective circuits. In practice, the MUX & DEMUX will be incorporated into the console and dimmers respectively, though standalone MUX & DEMUX units are available to convert analog systems into DMX.
The DMX Advantage
DMX is advantageous because the DMX cable is less bulky, cheaper, and less cumbersome than a 48 conductor cable. If the cable were to run long distances, any repeaters/amplifiers would only have to amplify 2 signals instead of 48. DMX also allows control of many different pieces of DMX equipment, such as smoke machines, scanners, dimmers, etc. from a central location.
Who Publishes The Standard?
The DMX-512 standard (actually USITT DMX-512 - 1990) is published by the U.S.I.T.T. and is now maintained by ESTA. For more information on standards, go to ESTA.com
Wire And Electrical Details
DMX-512 is RS485 serial at 250K baud, as such any installation must meet the requirements of EIA-485. In particular, use of suitable good quality cable is important (we would not recommend mic cable for a permanent install, although we have found a good quality mic cable is suitable for mobile use).

Line Termination
All DMX lines must be correctly terminated if reliable operation is to be obtained. If not, signal loss can occur. Some fixtures have a switchable line-terminating resistor built in. In these cases, make sure that only the last fixture in the chain has the terminating switch set to the on position. If the last item (farthest from the data source) does not have a terminating switch, then an external line-terminator is needed. To make one you will need the following parts:
1 Male 3 Pin XLR
1 110 ohm 0.5W Resistor
To make the line terminator, solder the resistor across pins 2 & 3 of the XLR. You may want to back fill the XLR with epoxy resin to provide protection. Line termination will not correct a bad cable or interference from running a DMX cable next to an electrical cable. High power electrical lines will cause interference.
What Is Addressing?
Because the DMX protocol is so basic, each intelligent light's range of controlling DMX channels must be set manually. Each light's DMX address corresponds to the first of the light's channels.
For Example:
You have two intelligent lights that use five channels each.
You set the DMX address of the first light to 1, and the DMX address of the second light to 6. The reason for this is because the first light is using channels 1,2,3,4 and 5 - so therefore the second light starts on channel 6. You may also have to set up your intelligent light console for the type of lights you have and their DMX address before you can control them.
Planning Your Addressing
You may want to do a little planning before you start addressing your lights. Put all of your lights in a logical order; it will help you figure out which light is which later. Next, find out how many DMX channels each light uses - the lights manual should tell you this. Now that you know what channel to start addressing your lights at, you can figure each light's DMX address (except when your controller banks channels, see Controllers). Take the first light's DMX address, add the number of channels it uses, and you have the second light's DMX address. Then, take the second light's DMX address, add the number of channels it uses, and you have the third light's DMX address. Do this until you have all the DMX addresses for your lights written down.
Controllers
Some controllers give you settings automatically and some controllers use banks of channels. Whether your fixture uses 4 DMX channels or 10 DMX channels, it will still require you to set up your fixtures based on it's banks.
Example:
CX-5 banks all fixtures in 14 channel intervals so your first fixture will always start on channel 1, and your second fixture will always start on channel 15. DMX-40 banks all fixtures in 16 channel intervals so your first fixture will always start on channel 1 and fixture 2 will always start on channel 17. Show Xpress allows you to use all the channels.
